In the market, you can find many different types of gongs, but being labeled Wind, Tam Tam, Chau<\/strong>, or belonging to a specific brand does not guarantee quality<\/strong>. In fact, it\u2019s possible to find Wind<\/em> gongs that are superior to some Tam Tam<\/em> or Chau<\/em> models.<\/p>\n

The relationship between weight and diameter<\/strong> is also essential \u2014 it\u2019s not the same to make one kilo of bronze vibrate as it is to make five. For example, among gongs with a 70 cm diameter<\/strong>, some may weigh 4 kg<\/strong> (producing higher tones), while others weigh 8 kg<\/strong> (producing deeper, lower sounds).<\/p>\n

The material composition<\/strong> plays a crucial role as well. Some gongs are made with high levels of zinc and nickel<\/strong>, such as alpaca alloys<\/strong>, composed of copper (50\u201365%)<\/strong>, zinc (20\u201330%)<\/strong>, and nickel (10\u201330%)<\/strong> \u2014 these tend to produce brighter, higher-pitched tones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In contrast, Nepalese gongs<\/strong>, much like Tibetan singing bowls, are made with higher proportions of copper and tin<\/strong>, without zinc or nickel. This composition increases their value but results in warmer, deeper, and more resonant tones<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
