Characteristics of Tibet Import Tibetan Bowls
-
There are different qualities of bowls, and the designation “7 metals” represents the highest quality. At Tibet Import, we have conducted an analysis of their composition (see analysis).
-
Composition of high-quality 7-metal Tibetan bowls: Copper (85%) is the main element and is responsible for vibration, giving the sound its duration and intensity. The remaining 15% is tin, which provides strength, and the rest consists of trace elements such as iron, making up less than 1%.
-
Our Tibetan bowls have a significant thickness, which is intentional, as thickness directly affects the sustain and depth of the sound.
-
All our 7-metal Tibetan bowls are handcrafted, hammered, and rounded by hand. Small imperfections and hammer marks can be seen on the surface — a clear sign of soft metal, which produces a long, deep vibration.

Tibetan Bowl 250 GR
Handcrafted – 7 Metals
Your First Bowl:
We recommend that your first bowl be a versatile one — a size between 700 g and 1.2 kg is usually the most suitable.
Relationship Between Size and Sound:
Tibetan bowls weighing under 500 grams produce high-pitched sounds, while larger bowls generate deeper tones.
Playing or “singing” a Tibetan bowl is not always easy — it requires a bit of technique. Begin with gentle circular movements while applying light but steady pressure. As you increase the pressure, you’ll begin to hear a faint sound. Once that tone appears, gradually increase the pressure to make it stronger.
It’s important that the mallet does not vibrate, which can be prevented by maintaining firm, consistent contact between the mallet and the bowl.
Types of Tibetan Bowls from Tibet Import
There are different grades of Tibetan bowls:
-
7 Metals: The highest quality, composed of 85% copper, 15% tin, and traces of other metals such as iron (around 1%).
-
5 Metals: Contain a higher proportion of tin, producing sharper tones with shorter resonance.
-
Aluminum: The most economical option, often painted in bright Buddhist colors.
For therapeutic uses, such as sound therapy, we recommend the 7-metals quality.
Thank you for your trust.
