Characteristics of Tibet Import Tibetan Bowls
-
There are different quality grades of bowls; the “7 Metals” denomination represents the highest quality.
At Tibet Import, we have conducted a composition analysis (see analysis). -
Composition of high-quality 7-metal Tibetan bowls:
-
Copper (85%) is the main element, responsible for vibration, giving the sound depth and sustain.
-
Tin (15%) adds strength and stability.
-
Traces (less than 1%) of other metals, such as iron, are also present.
-
-
Our Tibetan Bowls have a notable thickness — this is intentional, as thickness plays a crucial role in the duration and resonance of the sound.
-
Each 7-metal Tibetan Bowl we offer is handcrafted, hammered, and shaped by hand.
Small surface imperfections and visible hammer marks are a sign of authentic craftsmanship and soft, malleable metal, which allows for rich, deep, and lasting vibrations.
Thank you for your trust.

Your First Bowl:
We recommend that your first bowl be a versatile one — a size between 700 g and 1.2 kg is usually the most suitable.
Relationship Between Size and Sound in Tibetan Bowls:
Bowls weighing less than 500 grams produce high-pitched tones, while larger bowls create deeper sounds.
Playing or “singing” a Tibetan bowl is not always easy — it requires some technique. Start by making circular movements with light but steady pressure. As you increase the pressure, you’ll begin to hear a faint sound. Once you have that initial tone, continue increasing the pressure to amplify it.
It’s important to ensure the mallet doesn’t vibrate, which can be achieved by maintaining consistent pressure between the mallet and the bowl.
Types of Tibetan Bowls from Tibet Import
There are various quality levels of bowls:
-
7 Metals: The highest quality, made of approximately 85% copper, 15% tin, and traces (1%) of other metals such as iron.
-
5 Metals: Contain more tin, producing sharper tones with shorter resonance.
-
Aluminum: The most affordable option, often painted in bright Buddhist colors.
For therapeutic purposes, such as sound therapy, we recommend the 7-metals quality.
Thank you for your trust.
